17 Nov 2016 Supporting Career Ready
Dynamic EMS Ltd supports Career Ready.
Dynamic EMS Ltd have engaged with the Career Ready student mentoring programme which links students with working people and workplaces to develop their understanding of careers, attitudes and professional skills required to gain access to employment. The programme involves Peter Birrell (Operations Director at Dynamic EMS) and John Dignan (Managing Director at Dynamic EMS) mentoring students from a local high school over a two year period, encouraging career planning and building skills and networks to help achieve their potential.
John Dignan, (Managing Director) commented
“The mentoring is an integral part of the programme, providing students with consistent access to somebody from the world of work who can use their knowledge and experience to support student learning. I personally expect to learn a lot from this experience.”
Anne Wexelstein, Career Ready’s Director for Scotland, said:
“It is admirable that Dynamic EMS have taken the steps to engage with Career Ready in supporting a crucial element in the student journey from education to the workplace, helping students who lack the advantages of social mobility, to develop attitudes and understanding of the skills required for the world of work and the workforce of the future”.
- Career Ready is a national charity that links schools with employers to help prepare young people, who lack the advantages of social mobility, for the world of work.
- Aimed at 15/16-18 years-olds, the programme is built on four pillars which give students regular contact with working people and places: face-to-face mentoring by someone in work; masterclasses to help develop key skills and attitudes needed in their future career; workplace visits that provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse of local and national employers; and a paid internship between S5 and S6 to allow students to put their learning into practice in a real work environment. 97% of Career Ready students are in a positive destination on leaving school.
- We currently work with nearly 106 schools in nine Local Authority areas across Scotland: Edinburgh, Midlothian, Fife, West Lothian, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Perth & Kinross. An additional 27 schools are in the pipeline to start their Career Ready programme as well as new Local Authorities and their schools coming on board. The programme helps employers and schools to deliver ‘Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce’ recommendations and Career Ready is cited as an example of best practice in the CBI Scotland report, Delivering Excellence – A New Approach for Schools in Scotland.
- We are also delighted to be developing links with Investors in Young People in Scotland, who assist and recognise organisations’ employment of young people. A number of Career Ready employer supporters in Scotland have obtained The Investor in Young People Award.
